Two of today's very important values are eco-responsibility and individuality. It is clear that we live in a world of consumption, where industry encourages everyone to buy, consume and replace.
Often an object / device can be quickly repaired by replacing one part, generally not available or over-priced. Moreover, everybody wants to realize their identity through activities or objects that are unique and tailor-made. Many projects involving the creation of a 3D object can be realized, at a small scale, with 3D printing technologies.
